Overview
Niall Conlon is a self taught Irish artist. The former professional rugby player & Cambridge Blue left a lucrative career in the city of London’s financial district to follow his inner calling to become an artist.
Niall grew up in Belfast in the north of Ireland. His dynamic and thought-provoking pieces reflect his hometown's urban life and social dynamics, merging chaos and order in mixed media works.
His paintings are characterized by bold and dynamic brushwork, giving them a raw and energetic quality. He often uses strong, gestural lines and vivid colours.
Conlon also frequently builds up layers of paint, collage materials, and text on his canvases, creating a textured and complex surface. This layering adds depth and meaning to his works.
Certain motifs and symbols, such as dogs & skulls frequently appear in his paintings, creating a sense of continuity and his own personal visual language.
His expression of his interior world brings to mind artists from the great American tradition such as Basquiat & De Kooning.
Niall Conlon was born in 1983 & currently works out of his studio in Belfast city centre.
